SAM GREETS BROOKE ASTOR
The Astor Fellowship was awarded to NYC teachers who, most effectively, integrated the arts

Bio
Sam Affoumado, (Playwright/Director/Actor) is a native New Yorker. He studied Advanced Playwriting at NYU with Professor Laurie Brooks and was a participant in the “Playwriting in the Schools” Program at the Public Theater under the direction of Arthur T. Wilson. He is an Alumnus of the Ten-Minute Lab, Advanced Playwriting and Master Classes at the Barrow Group, (NYC) mentored by Arlene Hutton.
Sam has written seven full-length plays and over a dozen short plays and monologues. Currently, he can be seen performing his monologues, Last Night Bluey Died and The Mask-A-Raider on YouTube. Peanut Butter Patty was a semi-finalist in the 37th Annual Samuel French OOB Short Play Festival in NYC. Home Sweet Home, another short piece, was a finalist in the 2012 Magnolia Arts 10-minute play contest in Greenville, NC. His TYA work, The Bully’s Eye, was published by Applause Theatre and Cinema Books in an anthology entitled More 10-Minute Plays for Teens, edited by Lawrence Harbison. Sam’s one-act play, One-Way Ticket, was awarded a play lab slot and presented at the 2018 William Inge Theater Festival and conference in Independence, KS. Most recently, an excerpt from Sam’s full-length docudrama, The Panic Defense, was selected by Playbill and Michael Urie to be virtually presented on Instagram’s 2020 Pride Plays (Pieces).
Sam is a contributing writer and theater reviewer for theaterlife.com and he is a proud member of the Dramatists Guild, Actors’ Equity, SAG-AFTRA, Theatre Resources Unlimited, The New Play Exchange and The Playwright’s Center.
